Crazy Neil – Twitch Stream
Few years ago I was involved with the fabuluous “Not For Broadcast” a popular game on the Steam gaming platform. The game set in a video mixing studio allowed you to mix news stories and hit game plot points. The game mechanic required extensive video segemtns andf in fact the game has the Guinness world record for highest number of live action video of any game ever produced. The game also garnered many positive reviews and had a Games BAFTA ‘nom’.
My role was as an interstitial between videos, as an advert, and depending on the game path the player took, you saw my character’s evolution as the narrative progressed. In one time line I am destitute, in another I am stinking rich but in the all I am a horribly crass and annoying character andd the ads are quite clerarly the ramblings of a madman.
The process we followed was that the writers would know what they needed but there was no script, I merely improvised dialogue to a set of PowerPoint slides I saw for the first time in front of the camera. My goal was always to make the camera & production crew corpse and once had the privilige of watching as the cameraman had to walk away from his post for fear of his sniggering would spoil the take.
It’s an unconventional approach, but one I used before when I recored the Sure For Men “Fast Cash Races” VO for a series of ads. More about that another time.
Anyway, a few months after launch the Not For Broadcast team at Tiny House Games had me on their Twitch stream for an interview, and that interview is here, enjoy: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1021580924
