Do You Have a Plan?

New Year, new start is the usual mindset in January, so what’s your plan?
Do you have a plan or do you “take it as you find it”? If you’re feeling demotivated here’s a couple of strategies that might help stoke the fire.
Recently I was asked what I’m doing in 2023, and I know exactly what I want to achieve because my goals are very clear, and that helps create a plan.
Like any journey, you need to know the destination before you set off, otherwise you risk getting lost, meandering around with no clear direction forward.
Even if you reach your destination, you’ll take a lot longer getting there without a plan.
“Dreams become goals when you make a plan”, is a mantra that stuck with me. So, everything I want to achieve is mapped out for the year (and beyond) so I know what I’m doing, when and, more crucially, show me if I am on track. Get a year-to-view planner, a black marker and plenty of stickers and have at it.
Another great way to achieve more is to surround yourself with like-minded people. One of the best decisions I ever made was being involved with SiGNAL in Bordon, not only is there a fab community of like-minded business owners (and a free annual year planner!) but it gives me public accountability, which is the secret weapon of the truly motivated. Make your goals public and share with others. Scary? Yep. Motivating? You-betcha-bippy!
If the goal is something you truly want, tell peers and people you admire. Nothing like that to light a fire under you…
So, with that in mind, here goes: in 2024 (yes 2024) I’ll be walking/running Lands’ End to John O’Groats for charity. More soon, but there it is… Gotta do it now!
